Weekend surf report

An east to north-swell just over a metre and light winds provided beach breaks throughout the area today.

The forecast for Saturday is northerly winds, swinging around to the west by Sunday.

Hopefully, the winter offshore pattern is just around the corner.

Meanwhile, longboarders are preparing for the 27th annual Byron Bay Malibu Classic, which will begin next Thursday (May 3). Organisers say there will be about 220 competitors ranging in age from 14 to 70.

At the other end of the spectrum, entries are now open for the Rusty Gromfest for Under-16 surfers, to be held at Lennox Head from July 6-10.

This will be the 12th year of the event which has produced winners such as Mick Fanning, Julian Wilson, Stephanie Gilmore and Bede Durbridge.
