Ballina Seagulls prove too strong for the Giants
Ballina Seagulls turned in their best effort of the Retravision Northern Rugby League season, downing Mullumbimby Giants 30-10 in an entertaining match at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina, today.
The Giants were first to score for a 6-0 lead, but Ballina hit back to lead 14-6 at half-time.
Mullum got back to 14-10, but after that it was all one-way traffic.
The stars for Ballina were, once again, representative duo Andrew Battese (hooker) and Dylan Montgomery (front-row), but there were a host of other standout performers, including lock Alwyn Roberts, second-rower Edddie Killingbeck, halfback Ben Crawford and centre Luke Bartlett.
An impressive aspect of Ballina’s game this season has been their defence.
The win gave Ballina a 3-1 win-loss record.
The Seagulls’ next match will be against Lower Clarence at Maclean next Sunday, and that will be a good test of their premiership aspirations.
In reserve grade, the Seagulls ‘reggies’ won impressively, storming to a 46-16 win after trailing 16-10 at half-time.
Mullumbimby was too strong in Under-18s, winning 34-6.
