Knock, knock: The Salvos are calling
Ballina Shire residents can expect a knock on the door this weekend as the Salvation Army mobilises more than 100,000 volunteers for its national Red Shield Appeal doorknock.
Spokesman Major Neil Dickson said: “The Salvation Army needs to reach a national goal of $8 million if we are to maintain services in the year ahead.
“The Red Shield Appeal, which also includes a business appeal and direct mail campaign, has an overall national target of $64 million.
“Many Australians have prospered greatly over the last decade, with very favourable economic conditions prevailing throughout the nation. Sadly though, many other Australians have been left behind,
which in the vast majority of cases has been beyond their control.
“Many farmers are suffering the effects of the drought, single mothers are in crisis and many young people are fighting addiction and homelessness.
“We call on Australians to help those in need and donate to the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal.”
Collectors will be clearly identified by ID tags worn around their neck and they will be carrying receipt books in white plastic bags marked Salvation Army.
People who are missed by the collectors can make a credit card donation via the national hotline number 13 SALVOS 13 72 58, through the Salvation Army website www.salvos.org.au or by posting a cheque to GPO Box 9888 in their capital city.
