Cabin cruiser beached at Evans Head

A boat owner had a lucky escape last night when his cabin cruiser struck the north wall of the Evans Head bar, police said.

The incident happened at 6.20pm as the man, from Lake Haven on the Central Coast, attempted to guide his boat across the bar.

After striking the seawall the vessel began taking on water, so the owner ran the 42ft cruiser onto Air Force Beach.

The 58-year-old man suffered a minor injury to his face in the incident. He is waiting for the high tide so he can refloat the cruiser and inspect it for damage.
