Alstonville Showground wins funding

Federal Nationals Member for Page Ian Causley has announced that the Australian Government has approved up to $112,489 in Regional Partnerships program funding for the Alstonville Agricultural Show Society.

The Alstonville Agricultural Show Society will use the funding for its ‘Alstonville Showground Moves Forward’ project.

Mr Causley said the Australian Government funds will assist the Show Society to improve the Alstonville Showground by upgrading and extending its facilities.

“The funding will be used for the construction of an amenities block, security fence and grandstand, as well as an upgrade of the power supply facilities,” Mr Causley said.

“This will mean that the showground can be used for a greater number of community events.

“The funds will also pay for additional lighting to be erected at the showground. This will enable sporting groups to train and play competitive matches in the evening, and allow other types of events to also be held at night.

“The Alstonville Agricultural Show Society was formed back in 1888. The Show Ground is an historic part of this area and I’m very pleased the Government is able to help pay for these important upgrades.”

Mr Causley congratulated the Alstonville Agricultural Show Society and the Alstonville community for working together to access Regional Partnerships program funding.

Mr Causley also thanked the Northern Rivers Area Consultative Committee for helping to bring the project to fruition.

Since its inception in July 2003, the Regional Partnerships program has, on average, attracted a further three dollars from other sources for every dollar invested by the Australian Government.
