Tour de Cure team is on its way
Ballina and Lennox Head will play host to a new annual charity cycling event, the Tour de Cure, which will arrive in town on Tuesday as part of a 1100km journey from Brisbane to Sydney.
A group of 23 Australian men and women make up the Tour de Cure team, which is making the mammouth trip in the name of raising money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Camp Quality. Ballina will mark the second official pit stop for the Tour de Cure, which aims to raise $300,000 for the three cancer charities.
The Tour de Cure team will arrive at Lake Ainsworth at Lennox Head about noon where they will have Dragon Boat races and lunch with the local Dragons Abreast group. The Ballina Bike Users Group (BUG) will then accompany the team as they ride through to Ballina.
Aboutt 4pm the Tour de Cure team and Ballina BUG will arrive at Fawcett Park, Ballina, where they will be welcomed by Ballina Mayor Phillip Silver. The Northern Rivers Prostate Cancer Fund Raising Committee and Camp Quality will also be holding a free sausage sizzle for the public, so all are welcome to come down and meet the team!
At the Tour de Cure team will have dinner at The Sandbar Restaurant, Ballina. The public is welcome to come along and dine with the team. Menu will be A la Carte.
On Wednesday at 7pm, after a good night’s sleep, the Tour de Cure team will depart from the Comfort Inn All Seasons, with the Ballina BUG in tow, and make their way to Woodburn for breakfast. Following breakfast, the Tour team will depart for their next destination, Grafton.
