Weekend fishing report
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says the flatties are still hanging on fairly well through the river, with quite a few school jew up around Wardell on the change of the tide, especially at night. Blackfish are doing quite well at Prospect Bridge and along the Porpoise Wall. Sand crabs and muddies persisting well.
The main go has continued to be the tailor along South Beach and around the headlands and although they’re not huge in the main, there have been quite a few of them. There have been a few bream along the beaches and they’re moving into the river at night.
Offshore fishing has been OK with some snapper starting to move onto the shallower reefs and stray mackerel are still being taken. Out wide the pearlies and snapper have been good and there are kings on the deeper reefs as well.
A similar situation offshore at Evans Head, where mackerel have still been caught at times although some crews are now turning their attention more to teraglin and snapper. Pearlies, reds and big kings and samson on the wide grounds. The bar is quite shallow and has claimed a few more victims in past weeks, especially at night. Fortunately no one has been hurt.
Beaches and rocks have some school jew and tailor with bream working the washes, still whiting on Main Beach on worms and a few blackfish around the walls.
