Page calls for assurances on road safety programs
Ballina MP Don Page has called on the Minister for Police and the Minister for Roads to confirm there will be no cuts in funding provided by the RTA to allow highway patrol to carry out their important road safety work.
Mr Page said strong rumours were circulating that the RTA had either cut or were about to cut their funding for important road safety programs like Operation Northroads.
“With less than 40 per cent of the Pacific Highway dual carriageway, it would be irresponsible of this Government to cut funding to highway patrol,” he said.
“I’d like the Ministers involved to clarify the situation and rule out any funding cuts which will adversely impact on road safety.”
Mr Page said he had asked both the Ministers for Roads and Police to confirm there would be no funding cuts by the RTA for enhanced highway patrol work.
