Ballina, Evans Head fishing report

NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report for Ballina and Evans Head …

Wayne at Dave’s bait Shop says there have been some big bream off the end of the wall. Chopper tailor from the walls and headlands. Jewfish to 15kg starting to pop up. Blackfish going OK in their usual haunts.

A few boats at sea at Evans Head this morning for the first time for a week but still a bit of swell on the bar at low tide.

Not much fishable water up the beach apart from a few whiting in front of the surf club; the further north you go the bigger the swell. Earlier in the week there were good tailor form the headlands with fish averaging a kilo biting freely.

Blackfish have been around the walls whenever the swell has driven them in and there are some nice bream in the lower river which are biting after dark for those brave enough to stay out in the cold
Beaches have been pretty ordinary with a few bream and tailor.
