Aaron, Reece in Academy bowls squad

Talented young local lawn bowlers Aaron Teys and Reece Wilson are among a squad of 25 talented bowlers aged 12-18 years who have been selected into the North Coast Academy of Sport 2007-08 Lawn Bowling Program.

Now in its seventh year, the program, which is sponsored by Park Beach Bowling Club, services the Zone One and Zone Fourteen bowling areas, which spans a region from Tweed Heads to Camden Haven.

The 2007-08 squad includes: Jason Balaam - West Haven, Brendan Bale - Port Macquarie, Fletcher Barrett - Safety Beach, Beau Beddoes - South Lismore, Sinead Brewer - Bellingen, Jamie Eichorn - Yamba, James Gannon - Lismore, Brendon Hicks - Bonville, Joshua Hicks - Bonville, Tom Knight - Murwillumbah, Joshua MacMaster - Coffs Harbour, Kenneth McLeod - Comboyne, Jacob Melville - Coffs Harbour, Matthew Miles - Woolgoolga, Kenita Monks - Coffs harbour, Catherine O’Neill - South Lismore, Kristy O’Riley - Coffs Harbour, Rebekah Ramsay - Port Macquarie, Shani Ryan - Port Macquarie, Daniel Ryan - Port Macquarie, Daniel Saunders - Yamba, Aaron Teys - Ballina, Benjamin Watson - Coffs Harbour, William White - Coffs Harbour, Reece Wilson - Lennox Head.

Each member of the squad was chosen based on performances at zone, district and State level over the previous 12 months. Additionally, recommendations from each of the underpinning zone junior bowls co-ordinators is also taken into consideration.

The squad’s first training session took place last Saturday at the three sponsoring training venues of Lismore Heights, Park Beach and Port Macquarie Panthers Bowling Clubs. Squad members will meet monthly until November at their respective local training centre, except in August when all athletes and coaches will train and then attend a presentation function to thank program sponsors Park Beach Bowling Club.
