NAIDOC Week Ballina 2007

Ballina Shire Mayor, Councillor Phillip Silver today issued a reminder to shire residents that NAIDOC Week 2007 will be celebrated in Ballina during the week commencing 8 July.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held around Australia in July each year to acknowledge and share the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

"This year, Council is once again working with representatives from a number of our local Aboriginal community groups to plan a range of enjoyable activities for this important week" Councillor Silver said.

On Monday 9 July the annual Celebration Walk through the Ballina Town Centre will provide a prelude to the official opening of NAIDOC Week 2007 which is scheduled to be held at 10.30am in front of the Ballina Visitor Information Centre in River Street.

"Residents and visitors to our shire are encouraged to participate in the various planned activities for NAIDOC Week" the Mayor said.  A program of the planned activities may be obtained from Council’s Administration Centre or viewed on Council’s website.
