Page calls for safety review of B-doubles before gazettal expires
The Shadow Minister for North Coast, Don Page, on behalf of all North Coast National MPs, has called on the State Labor Government to do a proper safety review on the mixing of B-doubles with local traffic on the Pacific Highway, especially those sections yet to be upgraded, prior to the August 1 when the current B-double gazettal expires and a renewal is expected.
Mr Page said he was speaking on behalf of Nationals MPs Geoff Provest (Tweed), Steve Cansdell (Clarence), Andrew Fraser (Coffs Harbour), Andrew Stoner (Oxley) and John Turner (Myall Lakes).
Mr Page said the five-year gazettal for B-doubles on the Pacific Highway comes up for review and the Government owes it to the North Coast community to do a proper safety review (preferably by an independent body) before any decision is made about what to do when the current gazettal expires.
There should be public consultation and a genuine safety review, especially on those sections of the Pacific Highway not yet upgraded to dual carriageway. We believe the community is entitled to be told on what basis the NSW Government is going to make its decision,” Mr Page said.
“A full safety review should also give the key stakeholders and the travelling public have an opportunity to have their say.”
