Highway bypass plans on display

A presentation on the Pacific Highway Ballina Bypass will be on show with RTA staff present at the Richmond Room, Regatta Ave, Ballina (behind the Library) on Saturday, 30th June 9am-1pm and Wednesday 4th July 10am-6pm.

Ballina Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Glenn Costello said: “I would like to encourage all our members to go along and have a look, to give feedback to the Chamber on areas that are of concern or of support of the design so we can send a letter to the RTA with our members’ recommendations.

“To me the plan is great except for one major problem and that there is no off ramp into Ballina past the Teven interchange entrance, going north at the Cumbalum area, which will mean trucks/heavy vehicles, business people and tourists coming from the south that want to access the Southern Cross Industrial Estate or the airport, will have to go through Ballina as is the case now.

“This will put pressure on our internal roads and the high cost of maintaining these roads will continue. We must push the RTA to include an off ramp at this important part of the road so as to also stop any confusion regarding how to find the airport or for tourists that may have missed the Teven/main entrance and can not turn around or find another way into Ballina.”
