Ballina wins 14 years division two netball State title
Ballina Netball Association’s division two 14 years team has won the State championship.
The girls turned in a sensational effort at the championships in Wollongong, playing a marathon 24 games over three days and losing only two.
And those two losses were by one-point margins.
Ballina finished on 44 points, one ahead of Camden.
They scored a total of 382 goals and conceded 187.
Full results: Wins, 10-4 v Wollondilly, 18-9 v Singleton, 19-5 v Sapphire Coast, 20-4 v Port Stephen, 16-9 v Parkes, 16-7 v Mudgee, 14-11 v Inner West, 17-9 v Griffith, 16-3 v Grafton, 10-4 v Coffs Harbour, 15-8 v Camden, 17-4 v Bathurst, 18-8 v Ulladulla, 21-2 v Queanbeyan, 16-8 v Parramatta/Auburn, 14-4 v Lismore, 18-4 v Group 14, 18-12 v Great Lakes, 14-10 v Cowra, 14-4 v Cessnock, 21-15 v Blue Mountains. Losses, 15-14 v Young, 9-8 v Orange.
Under the professional supervision of Christine and Marnie Sironen and team manager Tiffany Lane, the girls applied ice packs between games and endured afternoon ocean swims to rejuvenate weary muscles, all in preparation for the following day’s events.
Defence players Madeleine Walsh, Daisy Seymour and Yani Clarke were exceptional, making many turnovers and driving the ball back down the court.
On centre court Shannon Pool, Tayla Austen, Elly Martin and Jessica Jarzynski picked up the pace in the already fast moving games, providing endless opportunities for the shooters. Chloe Lane, Lauren Sculley and Mikayla Corbett showed outstanding ability, ensuring their teams final success.
The win means that the team will progress to Division 1 next year — Chris Sironen’s second team to achieve such an amazing result.
Coaches, parents and girls would like to thank the Ballina and Alstonville communities for their interest and support.
