Big Artie, Tommy a big hit
More than 200 rugby league fans gathered at Ballina Seagulls Rugby League Clubhouse to hear talks by league legends Arthur Beetson and Tommy Raudonikis.
Seagulls president Bill Wilson, pictured with Big Artie and Raudonikis, said the Sportsman’s Dinner last Friday was a raging success.
He was particularly pleased with the efficient catering of Ward Gunn, the club’s new catering manager.
“I don’t know how he fed all those people in such a short time with such good food, but he did an excellent job,” Bill said.
The Seagulls club is pushing hard to lift its profile as a function centre, and last Friday’s Sportsman’s Lunch, along with a recent gala fund-raising night, have convinced the club that they having a winning combination with Ward and his colleague, secretary-manager Mark Cribb.
A recent addition to the club’s weekly agenda has been the Tuesday Trivia Teams Challenge.
Meanwhile, on the footy field, the Seagulls this weekend take on the Murwillumbah Mustangs. With both teams in the top four and wanting to stay there, the match is crucial to both sides and should provide a tough clash.
The Seagulls had their unbeaten run ended by Byron Bay at Byron last Sunday, and coach Chris Binge will no doubt be emphasising the danger of successive losses now that the season is gearing up to the ‘business end’, with seven rounds remaining.
