Ballina Shire considers Ward changes

Ballina Shire Council is considering changes to Wards A and B.

“The Local Government Act allows a maximum 10% variance between the number of electors in each Council ward. Currently the number of electors in B Ward is beyond the 10% limit,” the council said.

“To amend this variation, for the 2008 local government elections, Council is proposing that properties in East Ballina, bounded by the following streets, be relocated from B Ward to A Ward:

Eyles Drive (at a point between John Sharpe Street and Links Avenue) *

Anderson Street *

Lee Street *

Links Avenue *

Manly Street *

Pine Avenue *

Short Street *

Bayview Street *

Part of Compton Drive

The southern side of Shaws Bay

The Serpentine from Missingham Bridge west to an alignment with Eyles Drive (at a point between John Sharpe Street and Links Avenue)

The boundary will run directly down the middle of the streets marked with an “*”. In these cases typically the section of the street closest to North Creek, which is often the most southern side of the street, is to be relocated from B Ward to A Ward.

A map of the proposed changes can be viewed by clicking this link. It can also be view at Council’s Customers Service Centre, the Lennox Head Library and the Ballina Library.

Council is seeking community comment in regard to this proposal. Submissions Close 4.00 pm Friday, 17 August 2007. Inquiries can be directed to either Sandra Bailey or Paul Hickey.
