Chris Binge chosen in Under-15 national league squad

chrisbinge.jpgBallina Under-15 rugby player Chris Binge (pictured) is well on the way to being snapped up by an NRL club following his selection in the Australian Under-15 Merit side.

Chris, the son of Ballina Seagulls first-grade coach Chris snr, represented Combined Catholic Colleges Under-15s in the national championships in Adelaide last week.

Playing in the centres, the goalkicking Chris was named Man of the Match against Queensland.

He is another of a long line of outstanding talent produced by Ballina’s junior league. Several seasons ago James Rix was chosen in an Under-15 merit squad, and most recently Mitchell Aubusson was a member of the Australian Schoolboys team last season.

Mitch is now playing his first season of NRL with Sydney City Roosters and next season will be joined at the club by his brother James, who is with Melbourne Storm at the moment.

Chris Binge jnr’s selection in the merit squad followed his selection earlier this year for the Catholic Colleges team.

His grandfather Gary told Ballina Info that Chris is the same size as the front-rowers in the NSW Catholic Colleges team.

Chris has been a regular in Group One Junior representative league teams and such are his ball skills that he has been dubbed a ‘young Arthur Beetson’.

“To reach this level has been an ambition and dream of mine since I began playing rugby league,” Chris said.
