Ballina Shire to celebrate National Tree Day

Ballina Shire Council and community groups are joining forces to plant trees on National Tree Day on Sunday, 29 July 2007.

Ballina Shire Council is sponsoring this year’s National Tree Day in Ballina Shire by supplying 2619 endemic plant species. Volunteers are welcome to join in and help out by planting a tree at a public location on the day.

“National Tree Day is very easy to get involved in, and even if you are new to planting trees, there will be help available on the day to show you how,” the council said.

Ballina Shire Council is sponsoring five locations to which the public can join in on for tree planting on Sunday, 29 July 2007. These include:

Angels Beach at East Ballina with the Angels Beach Dunecare group along the overpass walking track over the Coast Road to the beach. Park and walk from either Silver Gull Drive across the overpass or from Angels Beach car park north along the cycleway to the overpass track. Planting from 8.30am to 12.00 noon.

Seven Mile Beach at Lennox Head with the Lennox Head Landcare group. Opposite Williams St and the Lake Ainsworth store. Planting from 8.30am-10.30am.

Patches Beach Public Reserve at South Ballina with the Patches Beach Dunecare Group. Planting from 8.30am-11.30am.

Alstonville Cemetery “Big Scrub” remnant at Alstonville with the Duck Creek Landcare Group. Planting below car park from 9.30am–11.30am.
