Weekend surf report

There’s plenty of swell today but the wind is a strong south to south-easterly.

The predicted spike in the swell has resulted in six to eight foot waves off Ballina.

Winds are forecast to be south to south-east through until Sunday, so the protected headlands and sheltered spots such as Byron Bay look the best bet for a weekend wave.

And don’t forget to pack your wetsuit. It’s been brass-monkey weather this week in Ballina, with the temperature dropping to an almost unheard-of zero in town overnight on Thursday.

This certainly has been our coldest winter for many a year.

The water’s a tad chillier than what it has been but it’s still OK. It’s the wind and chill factor that’s the problem!
