Tintenbar Hill claims another life

The notorious Tintenbar Hill, one of the worst blackspots on the Pacific Highway, has claimed another life.

Police today recovered a body at the scene of a B-double crash on the hill, about 10km north of Ballina.

The crash happened just after 4am when the northbound vehicle left the highway and travelled about 10m down an embankment, with the cabin coming to rest in a creek.

The refrigerated trailers were fully-loaded with a mix of smallgoods and frozen vegetables.

A crane was brought to the scene to lift the trailer out of the creek. The goods were transferred to another truck.

The body was found in the creek under the cabin about midday.

The Pacific Highway remained blocked to all traffic in both directions for several hours.

Northbound traffic was diverted at Ballina on to the Coast Road, while southbound traffic was diverted through the village of Tintenbar.

B-double vehicles were held on the highway as they could not be diverted onto the secondary roads.
