Ballina Seagulls offer a free helicopter flight

Wearing a Ballina Seagulls shirt, no matter how old, to the Seagulls’ home clash with Casino RSM in Northern Retravision Rugby League on Saturday could win you an Air T & G helicopter flight.

The club is running the promotion to ensure a good home crowd attends on Saturday, rather than the usual Sunday games. Any person wearing Seagulls colours will go into a draw for the flight.

Under-18s kick-off at 2pm and first grade should get under way about 4.45pm.

A win for the Seagulls is vital, who slipped from a share of the lead to third after last Saturday night’s 44-14 loss to Mullumbimby at Mullumbimby.

If they are to win the minor premiership, the Seagulls must beat Casino in this final competition round, and hope that Byron Bay beats Mullumbimby at the Bay on Sunday, and Murwillumbah beats Tweed Coast Raiders at Murwillumbah on Sunday.

And for those of you with no plans for Sunday afternoon, a trip to Byron could be worth the drive.

Matches between the two neighbours are always well-contested, but this one has added spice: Mullum must win to be assured of the minor premiership, and then there’s the stoush the two clubs had in round one, when Byron Bay refused to play Mullum under lights at Mullum on a Saturday night.

At the time, Mullum claimed Byron had agreed to the night game a month before, but Byron said that wasn’t so and they’d be happy to turn up on the Sunday afternoon and play then.

The result was that Northern League officials ruled that Byron had forfeited the match and Mullum got the points.

Red Devil Park will be no place for the feint-hearted on Sunday!
