Weekly fishing report

NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report for Ballina and Evans Head …

Bruce from Dave’s Bait Shop says bream are still doing very well in the lower reaches with bait working at night and soft plastics and crankbaits getting a few in the day, especially on the lower part of the tide when the water isn’t quite as clear.

Blackfish are also going very well around the Porpoise Wall, Prospect Bridge and the Burns Point ferry with still plenty of bag-limit catches. Weed is available.

A few jew in the river as well, with schoolies around Wardell and some bigger stuff in the lower end, especially at night.

Tailor are still going great guns on the beaches, with some quality bream and the persistent salmon. Best spots have been south of the bar although there have been a few tailor up towards Lennox.

Quite a few jackets outside but you can get a bait through them for snapper and pearlies. Still jigging a few kings out wide.

I can’t truthfully say what’s been biting at Evans Head, I haven’t been there all week.
