The Great Escape is heading to Ballina.

Cystic Fibrosis Australia (CFA) is currently taking registrations for individual entrants and corporate sponsored cars for the 2007 Cystic Fibrosis Great Escape Car Rally sponsored by Kitome.

The Great Escape is an on-road and off-road car rally adventure which leaves Tamworth, travels through the Whitsundays, with the final stop at Ballina, from September 3-13. The rally travels to Nindigully, Charleville, Longreach, The Lake, Eungella, Airlie Beach/Whitsunday’s (rest day), Theodore and Reedy Creek Winery.

“The Great Escape is a car rally that has always been a little different, a little unpredictable and always promises an incredible outback adventure. This is the sixth year CFA has hosted the on-road/off-road rally, and we are really pleased The Great Escape is shaping up to be our major fundraising event for cystic fFibrosis,” said Terry Stewart, CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Australia.

“We have received many entries, but still have places available for this year’s rally. CFA is inviting people to escape the daily grind and register with CFA now to come on this amazing outback adventure which is all about having fun, and help us raise funds to find a cure for cystic fibrosis.”

All entrants in The Great Escape will be raising awareness of Cystic Fibrosis. Fundraising money, which needs to be raised prior to The Great Escape, is directed to CFA for research projects and much-needed support services for children with Cystic Fibrosis and their families.

Rally cars need to be at least 20 years old and non-4WD, although 4WDs and vehicles less than 20 years can still participate, but entrants will not be eligible for rally awards.

The Great Escape rally currently has a Corporate Car available. Last year, Solvay Pharmaceuticals hired this car — the company sent a small team to the rally as a team-building exercise, and enjoyed positive corporate sponsor exposure during the event.

The entry fee for rally car registration is $275 (inc GST) per car; the minimum donation per car is $2700 and there is a catering fee of $572 (inc GST) per person (all payable prior to the event). The cost for use of CFA’s corporate car, complete with air-conditioning, radio/cassette player, car fridge, UHF radio, rally trip meter, tacho and all gauges, and covers registration, catering and donation for three people is $12,000.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic recessive disease that affects children and young Australians. A child is born with CF in Australia every four days. The condition affects the lungs, the digestive system, and eventually, threatens life itself.
