RTA, council combine to hold free workshop
The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) and Ballina Shire Council will hold a free workshop for parents and supervisors of learner drivers at the Ballina RSL Club on Monday 3 September from 7pm-9pm.
Natalie Chapman, Road Safety Officer with Ballina Shire Council, said the two-hour Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers course offers parents and supervisors practical advice on how to provide effective driving practice.
“The RTA recognises the important role parents and supervisors play in advising and supporting novice drivers and as such have developed this course to support and better prepare them for the job,” she said.
“The course will cover topics such as how to use the Learner Driver Log Book, how to plan on-road driving sessions, how to deal with difficulties that may arise during driving practice and the importance of giving the learner constructive feedback. New licence restrictions for novice drivers that were introduced in July this year will also be discussed at this workshop.
“Parents and supervisors who have attended a previous course found it boosted their confidence, helped them better plan driving sessions and allowed them to share their experiences with other parents and supervisors.”
Bookings for the Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers course are essential and can be made by calling Natalie Chapman on either 6686 1427 or 0400 319 275.
