Weekly fishing report for Ballina, Evans Head
NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report for Ballina and Evans Head …
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says the blackfish are going great guns, biting on yabbies around the walls and on green weed and black weed at all the usual haunts like the ferry, Porpoise Wall and Prospect Bridge.
A few bream biting through the day along with whiting and flathead in the lower reaches in water of a very good colour after the rain. Some good jewfish around the walls when the sea was up and some decent fish persisting along the Town Reach and around the RSL after dark.
Dart and whiting going quite well on the beaches and the tailor should kick back in now that the swell has dropped.
Boats on the 32-fathom reefs yesterday got snapper and pearl perch and a few leatherjackets, but not enough to send the fishos looking elsewhere.
Similar offshore scenario at Evans, where the bar is good and the snapper and trag have been co-operative in close and the pearlies and a few jackets out wider.
The beach is only just settling again after the big stir-up but already there have been dart, bream and salmon caught.
The river has been fishing quite well for blackfish and there have been a few flatties around from the Iron Gates downstream.
