It’s a Ballina v Mullumbimby grand final

Mullumbimby Giants set up a rematch with Ballina Seagulls in next Sunday’s Retravision Northern League rugby league grand final with a hard-fought 8-0 win over Marist Brothers in the preliminary final at Mullumbimby today.

The Giants, who finished minor premiers but were beaten 31-24 by Ballina last Sunday in the major semi-final, turned in a great defensive effort on a heavy ground to keep the Brethren scoreless.

Murray Brown and Chad Grant crossed for unconverted tries to be the sole scorers.

The news wasn’t so good in reserve grade for the Giants, who lost 12-8 to Murwillumbah. Murwillumbah will meet Ballina in next Sunday’s grand final.

But to emphasise the club’s depth, the Mullumbimby Under-18s beat Tweed Coast 26-16 and now will play Marist Brothers in the grand final.
