Bike Week offers chance to win a free bike
It’s that time of year, when Ballina Shire Council hosts Ballina Bike Sunday as part of NSW Bike Week — and just by participating, you could win a new bike.
The council says that Bike Week events seek to encourage participation in cycling as an enjoyable, low cost, healthy and environmentally friendly transport alternative, particularly for short trips.
This half-day free community event on Sunday 30 September will be based at Pop Denison Park, Compton Drive, East Ballina. Guided rides will start at the following times and will take place predominantly on shared pathways:
8.30am - 20km leisurely ride
8.45am - 15km leisurely ride
9.00am - short ride for families with young children
9.15am - 10km leisurely ride
Regular cycling groups are also invited to start and finish their rides from Pop Denison Park and be part of the event.
Even if you don’t want to go for a ride, there will be information stalls, brochures and bike maintenance demonstrations from 9am, followed by unicycle demonstrations from 10am.
From 10.30am there will be mini bike skills, road safety talks for children and a number of competitions, with prizes awarded for the winners of each of the following categories:
Best decorated bike
Oldest bike
Cleanest bike
Smallest ride-able bike (with pedals)
“The SES will be providing a BBQ throughout the morning to feed the hungry riders and the Cancer Council will be providing free sunscreen for participants,” the council said.
“So come along to Pop Denison Park on Sunday 30 September from 8.15am — don’t forget to bring your bike, helmet and water bottle. There will be prizes simply for participating — so
come along and be part of the event to go in the draw to win a new bike.”
