Do you want to take part in the Weedbusters Field Day?
Expressions of interest have been invited from all Landcare, Wildlife, bushland-friendly nurseries, surfing and other coastal organisations and individuals to participate in the first Weedbusters Field Day to be held on Sunday, October 28, from 10am until 3pm on the western side of the surf club at Shelly Beach, East Ballina.
It is being run by East Ballina Landcare in association with Ballina Shire Council, as part of national Weedbusters Week this year.
There will be stalls, demonstrations, displays, guided tours, talks, cheap food and drinks
Tables, shade covers and space will be provided free of charge to all participating groups or individuals. You only need to supply your posters, materials, handouts or whatever, plus someone to take care of your stall. Other suggestions for alternative ways of participating are most welcome.
The aims of the day are:
* to enhance community awareness of the value of a clean, safe beach and the importance of native vegetation and habitat for a healthy environment;
* inform the public about weed control plans, policies and strategies;
* demonstrate weed control techniques and weed identification;
* show-and-tell the adjacent wetland area currently under regeneration through an Envirofund Grant;
* and bring all beach users together to celebrate the natural assets and potential of Shelly Beach.
Expressions of Interest must be received by Tuesday 2 October. They can be mailed to PO Box 166 Ballina 2478, faxed to 66813557, or phoned to 0411 586 173.
