Jane Rutter Concert to benefit local Mental Health Support Group
Musica Viva, Lismore is a local group of volunteers dedicated to bringing internationally and nationally renowned classical musicians to the Northern Rivers. They have joined forces with the local Mental Health Support Group to bring Australia’s leading flautist, Jane Rutter to Lismore for an exciting evening of fine music and entertainment.
Proceeds from this concert will benefit the Mental Health Support Group which is a local charity dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and providing practical support for the steadily increasing numbers of this notoriously underprivileged section of the population. They do this by giving clothing, toiletry packs, reading material, games, music, phone cards and other essentials to 21st century living, to needy patients in Richmond Clinic and in the community.
For those people living in the community who are struggling with mental health issues and suffering financial hardship, the MHS Group provides household goods and finances regular social outings. The support given by the MHS Group is of enormous importance to patients who feel that someone cares, thus increasing their dignity and self esteem and helping them on the road to recovery.
Running such a charity requires funds. Barbara and Peter Swain, founders of the group are incredible fundraisers. The culmination of Mental Health Week will be a concert in Lismore City Hall starring Australia’s foremost flautist, Jane Rutter. This dynamic, charismatic performer, who plays everything from classical to jazz and pop, has appeared on many TV shows and with many of Australia’s symphony orchestras. She has also performed in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, for which she wrote the incidental music. She will be performing a concert of French music for us to enjoy.
