Lennox Head indoor bowlers today celebrated 20 years of inter-club competition with a six-club event at the Lennox Head Recreation Hall.

lennox.jpg Club president Dorothy Egberts said the first mention of indoor bowls being played at the hall was in 1967.

In June of 1968, the Lennox Head Recreation and Social Club was registered, and various sporting events have been held or based at the hall ever since.

The inter-club competition, known as the Shire Day competition, began in 1987.

Clubs from throughout the area, including Tintenbar, Alstonville, Ballina Uniting, Lakeside, Lennox Head, Ballina RSL, Senior Citizens and Sanctuary Village have competed for the Shire Day Shield in that period.

Today’s competition was contested by Lennox Head, Ballina Uniting, Lakeside Park, Sanctuary Village and Ballina Senior Citizens.
