Daily beach report

Northern NSW Life Guard co-ordinator Steve Leahy’s daily beach report:

A pretty quiet day – no rain but lots of cloud and certainly cooler today. Here’s what happened on lifeguard patrolled beaches in Ballina Shire today:

Lennox Head: Lifeguard Josh advises it was a very quiet day with no rescues or preventative actions – not even a minor first aid. Cooler conditions kept people away from the beach.

Shelly Beach, Ballina: Down the road at Shelly Beach, it was an unusually quiet day for this normally busy beach. Lifeguard Ruben only needed to advise four swimmers about swimming outside the flags.

Tomorrow’s Forecast: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, with periods of rain during the morning. Light to moderate north to north-east winds, freshening near the coast.

Today’s Water Safety Tip: Plunging waves – or ‘dumpers’ – can be dangerous, especially for young children. These waves break with tremendous power and are capable of pushing a person under water. Avoid these waves unless you’re an experienced board rider.
