Weekend fishing report for Ballina, Evans Head

NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekend fishing report:

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says the whiting are in North Creek and the lower reaches of the river but not many reports from Pimlico yet.

Flatties in the lower reaches and up around Burns Point. School jew from 2kg to 4kg at Pimlico and Wardell.

Mud crabs getting about and the odd sand crab as well, which is a good sign.

A lot of good whiting on the beaches, some patches of flathead and a lot of good bream, as well as the persistent salmon. South Beach continues to fish well.

Some good snapper in close on the plastics and a few pearlies and mixed bags on the wider reefs.

Inshore water at Evans is a little cooler and has gone murky and green on the beach but there’s still the odd nice whiting and bream to be had and the salmon don’t seem to mind what colour or temperature it is.

I don’t know about the jewfish from the rocks at this stage because I’ve been in Brisbane most of the week.

Quite a few boats heading offshore with a few good snapper and trag in close and reds and pearlies out wide.
