Lance Ferris memorial service to be held on Friday

This email from Marny Bonner, partner of the late Lance Ferris, founder of the Australian Seabird Rescue service who died last weekend, gives details of Friday’s commemoration service for Lance …

Dear friends,

If I haven’t been able to thank you personally, on behalf of Jason, Rochelle and the ASR crew, please accept our gratitude for your condolences.

Tributes continue to arrive from around Australia and overseas, and I only wish Lance could have understood how many people he inspired and touched. The troops are rallying here; I am so proud of everyone, as I know he would be.

And now that the media frenzy is settling down, we all continue to try to come to terms with it. We have all been greatly comforted by the outpourings of love and support for which we are very grateful.

Lance’s life will be commemorated at the Seabird Rescue Centre on Friday at 11.30. The Centre will be open from 10 and ASR guides will be on hand.

The Centre (WildlifeLink Sanctuary) is at the end of North Creek Road in Ballina, just minutes from the airport.

As each day unfolds, we will be adding information to our website: www.seabirdrescue.org

We ask all wildlife carers to proudly wear their uniforms, and all ASR members to proudly wear theirs too, of course.

If you are unable to attend but would like to connect with the commemorations in some way, please feel free to send your condolences, thoughts, tributes, whatever it is you’d like to express, in a Word.doc to: admin@seabirdrescue.org

If you can include your name, etc. as well as a photo on the same page, please do so. We will put these up on the poster boards at the centre.

Lance wanted to be cremated and his ashes scattered on “the island” (the sand cay in the Richmond River at Ballina) where we so often looked for and captured injured pelicans. This will take place privately on Sunday.

With love,

Marny Bonner.
