Daily beach report

North Coast Lifeguard co-ordinator Stephen Leahy’s daily beach report:

A sunny but cool day and the surf was still a little wild so crowds were generally quiet. Here’s what happened on lifeguard patrolled beaches in Ballina Shire today:

Lennox Head: A reasonable crowd enjoyed the beach but not too many ventured into the water. No incidents to report.

Shelly Beach, Ballina: Quite a few rips around and very choppy conditions with waves up to a metre. Three people were warned about swimming in dangerous areas.

Tomorrow’s Forecast: Fine. Mostly sunny. Light to moderate east to north-east winds. Pretty much similar conditions as today.

Today’s Water Safety Tip: Blue flags are often seen on patrolled beaches on either side of the swimming area marked by the red and yellow flags. The flags advise of the boundaries of the surfing area and create a buffer zone between the surfing area and the swimming area. Surfboards and other surfcraft are not permitted inside the blue flags.
