Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report
NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report for Ballina and Evans Head:
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says there are a fair few whiting and flathead in the lower reaches and they seem to be improving daily.
North Creek and the main river up to about Keith Hall for the whiting and some decent flathead in North Creek and down along the Porpoise Wall. Still a few blackfish hanging around, too. Quite a few small school jew between Pimlico and Wardell, especially in the evenings.
Whiting and bream going very well on South Beach with a few dart mixed in with them. Salmon are persisting in some numbers still.
Snapper going well outside, especially on soft plastics. The wider reefs should fish well this weekend.
At Evans Head a few boats headed offshore this morning for the first time for about a week, I don’t know what they’re catching yet.
The beaches have some decent bream and plenty of small ones, along with a smattering of fair whiting here and there and those pesky salmon. A few whiting and flathead in the river.
