Ballina art gallery to open on Friday
The Northern Rivers Community Art Gallery will be officially opened on Friday 26 October at 5.30pm by the Mayor of Ballina, Cr Phillip Silver, and the Federal Member for Page, Ian Causley.
The gallery, situated in the former Ballina Municipal Council Chambers building at 44-46 Cherry Street, Ballina, marks many years of community support for Ballina to have a facility of this nature.
The facility will provide a centrepiece for the display of local community arts.
Support for the project has come from the community through the Ballina Arts & Craft Centre Inc (BACCI) who have provided funding of $70,000 towards refurbishment of the building.
Other funding sources include the Federal Government (through DOTARS) - $355,000, the State Government (through Arts & Planning NSW) - $110,000 and the council providing the balance of $535,000.
“Transformation of the building has been taking place since May this year and the opening will mark an exciting era for cultural arts within the region,” the council said.
“All members of the public are welcome to attend the opening and celebrate this milestone for Ballina.”
The opening will be followed by the launch of the Ballina Arts & Crafts Centre Inc public art exhibition at 7pm.
