Get rid of your e-waste for free
Ballina Shire residents can get rid of e-waste on Friday and Saturday for free.
All commercial premises, government offices, educational facilities and households can recycle their e-waste at the drop-off days. All the e-waste collected will be transported to a purpose-built facility in Brisbane to be recycled through an environmentally-friendly process.
E-waste includes computers, home office equipment, mobile phones; digital cameras, stereo systems, monitors, televisions, laptops, videos, DVD players and other computer parts such as scanners and cables which all have the potential to leach toxins and heavy metals into the environment if they end up in landfill.
Ballina Shire Council is teaming up with other local councils and the North East Waste Forum to collect ‘electronic waste’.
“Australians are some of the highest users of new technology in the world and North Coast residents are no exception,” the North East Waste Forum said.
“But when we constantly upgrade to the latest technology and electronic equipment, we are left with a mountain of old products that they replace.
“As we continue to buy more and newer products, our personal pile of e-waste grow.”
Ballina Shire Council and the North East Waste Forum will collect ‘electronic-waste’ for recycling free of charge on two e-waste drop-off days. From 8am-3pm on Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, residents and businesses living and operating in Ballina Shire can drop electronic waste to the Ballina Landfill, Southern Cross Drive, Ballina.
“None of the electronic equipment being used in Ballina Shire is being recycled, instead it ends up in the landfill, adding to our continuous loss of landfill space,” said Phillip Silver, Mayor of Ballina Shire.
“The drop-off days will allow residents and businesses to do the right thing and recycle their e-waste.”
