Daily beach report
North Coast Lifeguard co-ordinator Stephen Leahy’s daily beach report:
A beautiful morning along the coast but the wind picked up this afternoon, which made for choppy but small waves which were difficult for swimming and surfing. The good news is that there is no sign of the storms predicted for this afternoon. Here’s what happened on lifeguard patrolled beaches in Ballina Shire today:
Lennox Head: Lots of rips along the length of Lennox Head beach today and Lifeguard Anthony was kept busy. Thirty-two swimmers were warned about swimming in dangerous locations, outside the flags today.
Shelly Beach, Ballina: Even though there were only small crowds at Shelly Beach today, Lifeguard Ruben carried out 28 preventative actions throughout the day.
Tomorrow’s Forecast: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon. Humid with light to moderate north to north-east winds, freshening about the coast.
Today’s Water Safety Tip: If you’re dumped in the surf and hit your head, you may experience a range of pain sensations such as soreness around the neck and shoulders and tingling along your limbs. You might also experience a lack of feeling in your limbs or lose the ability to move certain parts of your body. You should report this immediately to the lifeguards on duty who will stabilise and treat any injuries you might have suffered.
