Students donate to Australian Seabird Rescue
Students of Summerland Christian College in Goonellabah have presented a cheque for over $250 to Australian Seabird Rescue.
The Year 6 students organised a cake sale, which was held the previous week on the grounds, to raise donations for the ASR organisation.
The students had learned of ASR during a field trip taken to the ASR Centre in Ballina in which they attended a class about endangered species, led by Lance Ferris.
Eager to help support the ASR cause, the students decided to conduct a cake sale in order to raise donations.
The $253 cheque was presented by school captains Jessica Byrne, Madeline Shum and Caleb Hay to ASR volunteer Rochelle Ferris, daughter of Lance Ferris.
Rochelle discussed the importance of environmental protection and conservation, and told students of the rescued animals currently in rehabilitation at the ASR Centre.
The enthusiastic students were encouraged to revisit the centre and many expressed a keen interest in the volunteer opportunities offered by ASR.
Team members of ASR would like to express their gratitude for the continuous support of the local community, reinforcing the idea to “Think Globally, Act Locally!”
