NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says Emigrant and North creeks are quite dirty after the rain last week but the main river has fished well for bream, whiting and flathead, with the best lizard this week a solid 7.7kg.
The whiting are up to Pimlico Island on the run-in tide and there have been plenty of mud crabs from Wardell bridge down to the ferry.
A few small jewfish from the river and a couple of better ones from the walls on plastics and bait.
Find a bit of clear water on the beaches away from the river mouth and there have been some tailor, with the bigger ones coming in at night on cut bait.
Some reports from outside of snapper and pearl perch out wide with a few good ones on plastics on the close reefs, with Black Head and Riordans Reef the best spots.
I haven’t been at Evans all week but the water looked pretty good last weekend, although the bar was up then. If that clear water gets to around 22 degrees or more it’s worth looking for bait schools and possibly the first mackerel of the season. But be quick, they don’t hang around long.
