Water restrictions still in place
Good recent falls of rain have resulted in rising levels at Rocky Creek Dam but Rous Water says the current Level 1 water restrictions remain in place in the Ballina Shire area.
Rocky Creek Dam has received more than 130mm of rain, but the level remains below 70 per cent.
“The Regional Water Management Strategy adopted by Rous Water provides for the lifting of Level 1 water restrictions at 70 per cent,” Rous Water general manager Paul Muldoon said.
“While the recent rainfall has been very welcome, more rain is needed in the dam catchment before the water restrictions can be lifted altogether. With the holiday season not far off, all consumers need to maintain vigilance and continue to use water conservatively.”
Level 1 water restrictions apply to residential and commercial water customers in the Lismore, Ballina, Byron and Richmond Valley areas.
Rous Water says this also include Wardell, which is not supplied by Rous Water.
Under Level 1 restrictions, residents may use sprinklers and fixed hoses every second day between 6am and 10am and 3pm and 7pm on odd or even calendar days matching the house number.
Hand-held hoses may still be used at any time but must be fitted with an on/off nozzle.
New swimming pools may be filled but the emptying and refilling of existing pools and outdoor spas is banned for the purpose of cleaning.
An existing pool or spa may only be filled following repair work.
The washing of driveways, paved areas and roofs by residents is only permitted for health and safety reasons using a bucket or watering can.
