Alstonville GP wins national award

Dr Tony Lembke pictured with his wife Cathy just after being awarded the John Aloizos medal in Hobart.Alstonville GP Dr Tony Lembke has been recognised nationally for his outstanding commitment to general practice through his work with the Northern Rivers General Practice Network.

Dr Lembke was awarded the John Aloizos Medal at the annual Divisions of General Practice Network meeting currently being held in Hobart.

Dr Lembke is the chair of the Northern Rivers General Practice Network, which provides support to GPs and general practice in this region to improve the health of the community.

An active supporter of the work of the division at local, state and national levels, Dr Lembke has been instrumental in supporting families with young children through his involvement with the Northern Rivers Family Care Centre (established by the NRGPN in 2002), and the North Coast Centre for Child and Young Person at Southern Cross University.

He has also been deeply committed to the advancement of computerisation in general practice. He was an inaugural member of the Alliance of NSW Divisions IT steering committee. Recently he was invited to be a representative on a ministerial advisory council to advise the Federal Government on e-health initiatives.

“We are delighted that Tony has been recognised on the national stage in this way,” said Chris Clark, CEO of the NRGPN.

“Tony has shown exceptional commitment to the role of the Northern Rivers General Practice Network in supporting general practice and primary care in the community.”

The NRGPN also received an excellence award in Hobart for its achievements in communication and advocacy.

About the John Aloizos Medal

The annual Australian General Practice Network’s John Aloizos Medal aims to recognise and acknowledge individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the divisions’ network. The award is an opportunity to celebrate individual excellence and service to divisions in supporting their continued role in general practice and primary care.
