NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says the big tides are cleaning up the dirty water fairly quickly. Some flathead and whiting in the lower reaches and up to Pimlico Island with bloodworms vital for good whiting catches on these big tides.
Mud crabs have been OK around Pimlico and a little upstream and still a couple of blue swimmers in the lower river and everyone is hoping they’ll stick around.
Beaches fishing pretty well for bream, whiting and flathead, with the odd tailor also floating about.
Outside fishing has been good for snapper and pearlies on the wider grounds and squire on soft plastics on the closer reefs.
Airforce Beach at Evans Head has been turning up bream, whiting and flathead, with some school jew up around Broadwater Beach. Also whiting on worms at Main Beach and New Zealand Beach.
The river has quite a few bream biting on the rising tide, along with some flathead and whiting, with still the odd catch of blackfish from the walls.
Outside has been quite reasonable for squire in close, trag a little deeper and still some snapper, pearlies and kings out wider.
