NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says quite a few quality whiting have been caught on the big tides on bloodworms around Pimlico, in North Creek and in the lower reaches around the town as well.
Flathead along the town reach have been going quite well on soft plastics with plenty of school fish and some large females which should be released to spawn.
School jew are feasting on the prawns gathered around Wardell but the fish are mostly in the soapy class, with a few fair ones to 6kg.
Mud crabs are going well from Pimlico upstream with even a few blue swimmers around Pimlico Island.
The beaches have been quite good with a lot of whiting, some flathead and some big tailor after dark.
Wider reefs have produced snapper and pearl perch while the closer reefs have a few squire on soft plastics.
Nice seas for fishing the beaches and for heading across the bar at Evans Head.
Bream, flathead, whiting and school jew in some nice gutters from Airforce Beach up to Boundary Creek with soft plastics working well for the waders.
Some catches of small to medium trag to supplement the snapper this week and still kings and pearl perch out wide.
The river has the odd nice flathead with some whiting upstream and the ever-present bream from the trawler harbour to the bridge.
The odd school jew and nice bream coming from the headlands – about time!
