Coalition commits to Alstonville bypass

A re-elected Coalition Government will fully fund the Alstonville bypass, starting in 2008, and also upgrade the Bruxner Highway intersection with the Pacific Highway, the Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of The Nationals, Mark Vaile announced today.

Students donate to Australian Seabird Rescue

Students of Summerland Christian College in Goonellabah have presented a cheque for over $250 to Australian Seabird Rescue.
The Year 6 students organised a cake sale, which was held the previous week on the grounds, to raise donations for the ASR organisation.

Surfrider Foundation clean-up a big success

The Surfrider Foundation’s first ‘Beach Clean-up Day’ held at Ballinas Shelly and Lighthouse beaches on October 27 turned out to be a win for the foundation.

It’s been a while coming, but the Ballina Cup will be hosted by the Ballina Jockey Club next Thursday, November 15.
The Cup originally was scheduled for August but the equine influenza outbreak forced its postponement.

Grafton inmate escapes; police seek assistance

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a prisoner who escaped while being treated in Grafton Base Hospital on Sunday night.
Nathaniel Robert Young was wearing prison greens when he was last seen shortly before 9pm.
