Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report

Rhonda at Dave’s Bait Shop says flathead and whiting are going quite well through the river.

Nice whiting still around Pimlico and North Creek on worms, while the flathead are in the lower river and North Creek and biting on drifted whitebait and lures.

Dart off the beaches around Lennox and northwards, some fair bream and the odd tailor off the local beaches.

Some snapper and trag offshore.

At Evans Head, water on the high tide is looking nice and clear with a blue tinge offshore that denotes a slug of warm water not far away. Current running quite strongly outside but there are still plenty of trag around with the odd smattering of reds. Pearlies, snapper, kings and amberjack out wide.

The beaches have some nice bream, particularly around the coffee rock at Broadwater, with a few also down towards Airforce and Main beaches, where the whiting also aren’t too bad on live worms.

Whiting also in the river although you’ll have to sift through the rats to find some of the quality fish to 40cm nosing about.

Also a few flathead and bream and this is a good time to try for mangrove jacks. Plenty of crabs in the upper reaches, get your share before the place becomes inundated with traps.
