Sport and Rec offers plenty of holiday kids’ activities

With the school holidays almost upon us and parents and carers looking for something to challenge the kids this summer, look no further than NSW Sport and Recreation’s surfing, kayaking, cricket and Lake Ainsworth Activity Programs.

“The surfing program is always a great hit,” said Lyn Larsen, from NSW Sport and Recreation.

“It’s a great chance for kids to develop their skills while learning about safe surfing, rips and currents.” .

The program, for eight- to 15-year-olds, will take place on 14 and 15 January at Lennox Head. The cost is $120.

If water is an interest but you like to take it a little more sedately, then kayaking might be the go. For nine- to 15-year-olds, the session on 16 January involves a guided eco tour through Ballina’s waterways. The cost is $54.

“The Lake Ainsworth Activity Days are perhaps the most popular of the programs,” said Ms Larsen. “Offering activities such as canoeing, archery, swimming and bike riding, they are always a lot of fun.”

The activity days, for seven- to 13-year-olds, will run from 9am to 4pm on 8, 10, 15 and 17 January, at a cost of $40 per head, which includes a BBQ lunch.

Cricket clinics will take place for eight- to 16-year-olds in Lismore and Tweed Heads.

The Lismore program, headed by Stan Gilchrist, will run on 21, 22 and 23 January, while the Tweed Clinic, co-ordinated by Keith Wyatt, will take place on 22, 23 and 24 January. The cost of the clinics is $65.

Pre-enrolment is essential for all programs.
