Police investigate armed hold-up in Ballina

Detectives are investigating an armed hold-up at a credit union in Ballina yesterday.

About 3.25pm, witnessed have told police a man armed with a handgun entered the financial institution in a shopping centre in Ballina and demanded money from staff.

An amount of money was handed over before the man ran from the shopping centre and got into a 2006 red Toyota Corolla hatchback on the Pacific Highway.

The Toyota, driven by a second man, was last seen travelling north on the Pacific Highway.

No one was injured in the incident and no shots were fired.

Police would like to speak to two men they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.

The first man has been described to police as being of white/European appearance, 30-years-old, 173-183cm in height, athletic build, having blue eyes and brown/blonde hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing dark clothing, a balaclava and carrying a black bag.

The second man has only been described as being of Aboriginal in appearance, with a fair complexion, 30-years-old and having a solid build.

Police are urging members of the public to keep a lookout for a 2006 red Toyota Corolla with NSW registration AN47KJ. Anyone who sees the car is asked not to approach it, but contact Triple Zero immediately.
