Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says whiting have been very good around Pimlico Island on bloodworms and there are a few around the sailing club and in North Creek at night.

Quite a few flatties on plastics in the lower reaches and a few blackfish around the walls.

The jewfish around the walls and in the lower reaches have been very good this week and there have also been a few on adjoining beaches.

Surprisingly, some very good tailor up to 3kg have been spun up around Flat Rock and the other local headlands up to Lennox.

A fair bit of a fresh coming down the Richmond arm, apparently, so there should be a few mud crabs on the march when the water gets down lower.

Whiting and a few bream on the beaches along with a few flathead.

No outside reports.

At Evans Head about 1.5m of swell on the exposed beaches and a light southerly today (Fri). Water hovering around 22 degrees. Some whiting, bream and school jew up the beaches with the odd school of tailor. Bigger jew around the headlands with some nice ones also on the beaches following the tailor and mullet.

Some decent whiting in the river among the throwbacks, the odd decent flathead and plenty of little spikies.

The normal schools of big, wary bream and still the occasional blackfish around the walls when the sea is up. Mud crabs up around the golf course.

Still trag offshore but they’re mostly pretty small, and the odd catch of snapper in close.
