TODAY’S REPORT:
Beach Conditions: The strong north-east winds on Saturday, followed by the southerly yesterday have made conditions unstable and hazardous. Waves are around half a metre and occasionally higher and there are numerous rips on all beaches. It’s possible that conditions could deteriorate later this afternoon.
Today’s Weather Forecast: Cloudy periods with isolated showers. Light to moderate southeast winds, fresh at times on the coast. Expected maximum temperature of 26 degrees.Marine Weather:S E 15/20 knots. Sea: 1/2 metres. Swell: S/SE 1.5/2 metres.
Tides at Ballina: The next high tide is at 9.17 am and the next low tide is at 4.08 pm. Water Temperature: 18 degrees.
UV Index: Forecast to be Extreme.
Today’s Water Safety Tip: When going out through the surf, negotiate the shallows by a high hurdle type of stride until the breakers reach your waist or until your progress is slowed. Also check the depth of any gutter and the height of any sandbank before diving under waves – this will help prevent spinal injury.
